Why You Shouldn't Make a Will or Trust With AI or an AI Legal Program
AI is a great asset for moments when you just aren't sure what to do or even the questions to ask, but it has it's limitations.
Would you trust AI to diagnose your illness and prescribe a treatment? Probably not without also going to a doctor. The same goes for legal documents. We have had quite a few people bring us AI generated documents that actually did not fit their state laws or were not at all what they described wanting. Here are some reasons we think you should be careful using AI to save a bit of money with estate planning:
You don't know the laws, so you're trusting it's right since no one but AI is there to explain it to you.
It does not understand the nuances of contractual and legal language. Words like "will" vs "may" can make a huge difference in what has to happen. What if your child will lose their medical or disability funds because of the way your will is written?
If your kids need help, they have to hire someone to read what AI wrote and interpret it.
The AI program cannot help after your death with asset division or probate.
If you need changes or make changes, you don't know if it's conflicting with other things that were written.
If the AI program makes a mistake, they can't go to court to fix it. You'll be paying an attorney a lot more to try to fix what AI messed up.
Low cost/ no cost on the front end, but a larger risk and expense later on.
Plus, we consume a lot less water creating your will and trust for you.
