Why do I need a trust?
People often think that trusts are for the wealthy and that the average person doesn't need anything more than a will, but that's just not true. Wills are a great place to start, but if you live in Oregon and have $1 million or more in assets, don't want to pay as high of taxes on your inheritance, or want to avoid probate court, you'll want a trust.
Many people do not realize that wills have to go through probate, which will keep your family from receiving the money they may need to make ends meet for three to six months. Those months of waiting may make a massive difference in your loved one's quality of life, particularly in situations like your child is in college and relies on you to pay for their education or your husband/wife would need the money to pay the mortgage or the care facility they're in or your chosen guardian needs the money to support your children while they adjust to their new life. Don't keep your family waiting for the help they need.
Today, trusts are not for the wealthy; they're for the savvy.
